Memoir Writing

My sister-in-law teaches a class on memoir writing and called last night to talk with me about electronic media and blog writing as a publication method.

All I could really tell her, other than the mechanics of putting a blog together, was that it gives me an outlet to express my thoughts and memories and to share information that I find interesting. It 's a real bonus to find others out there who share the same interests and with whom I can share an electronic friendship. Personally, I am somewhat isolated geographically and finding people to share ideas and interests, even electronically is a real treasure. I can imagine for people who are elderly or shut in, it is a real life line.

Feel free to share your thoughts in comments and perhaps she will be able to find some more ideas to share with her class.

Beth, you are so right, this electronic way to connect to people is an amazing outlet, especially in the rural area that we live in.

I feel so blessed to have found the world of blogging. It is wonderful to find others with whom we can share so much and all from the comfort of our own homes. I would think teaching a class like that is more difficult than we'd think. Praises to her!

Send her over anytime. My blog is such a fine example of everything good about blogging. :)

Although I'm not as isolated as you--I agree with blogging being a lifeline.
I see very few people who share my interests on a a daily basis--sharing with others across the miles makes me feel less the odd-ball.

Hi Beth,
I'll echo Nina's sentiments 100%. I have always considered myself something of an "oddball" too, with an interest in nature and birds that most of my contemporaries and co-workers do not share.
And the neatest thing about blogging has been that I've been able to meet some blogging friends in person and actually develop a "human" friendship in addition to the "virtual" friendship.

Beth, my love of writing had become as isolated as I was. I moved to a new place and found it harder to make freinds than usual, especially friends who share my intrests, and we all know how hard it is to break into publishing these days. I started Blogging at the encouragment of my younger brother and quickly fell in love with the immediacy of it all and the connections wih other people. I not only love to write and share my own experiences, I love to visit others' blogs and learn from them. It's a whole new world out there and blogging fills a void I didn't realize I had. It's also a way for me to share my life with all the friends I have made across the U.S. My friends and family can check in on their own time and read whatever intersts them. And I too hope to meet some of my fellow bloggers in person someday.

My real dream is to move to a remote natural area. Knowing that you can stay connected through the internet makes it even more appealing.

It's a longshot trying to find people who like the same things when your interests are natures, writing, the big old world.
Blogging helps me to find people I'd otherwise never meet. And it helps greatly in sharing ideas and not feeling, as Nina said, such an oddball.
