Wire Bridge

Somewhere along the road between North New Portland and New Vineyard there is a sign pointing to "Wire Bridge". I've always been curious but never took the time to check it out until today.

It is a wire suspension bridge built in 1864.

As the granddaughter, daughter, niece, sister and mother of engineers, it felt good to pay homage to a Maine Civil Engineering Landmark.

Very cool! Next time I am out in that direction I will have to check it out. I have an architect who lives inside my head and is very intrigued by bridges and buildings.

It didn't say in the info, but was it originally a walk across bridge or did horse and buggies use it also? A one of a kind!

Wow, so much history in that very cool looking bridge.

The bridge has held up well to be so old. It looks a lot more healthy than the cable bridge at the end of Price Road. :)

Isn't it funny to explore something you've been looking at for years?
Amazing, the things that sit practically in our back yard.
I love bridges, myself. They're a marvel to me, like planes.

It's good that it has been preserved. Very historical.
