Cardinals in the Snow

The Bluejays spent most of the day at the feeders, but just before dusk, Mr. Cardinal arrived. He ate and looked around and ate some more then flew off and brought back Mrs. Cardinal. What a cute couple--look how he dotes on her.

As the rest of the country digs out and recovers from the storm, we are in the thick of it. At this point, we probably have close to a foot and it is supposed to continue until midnight. Bee class was canceled.

I am planning a hike into Carter Notch with a friend on Saturday. It should be beautiful but I hope some hearty souls get in there to pack out Nineteen Mile Brook Trail before we head in. In fact, if I could have my preference it would be a group of very heavy people on snowshoes or perhaps even a large group of boyscouts. The harder the snow is packed down, the easier for those that follow.

The cardinals are such a cute couple.

You are one brave soul going out on snow shoes with all that snow. I bet it will be lovely though.

Cardinals are always so very beautiful in the snow! You are one brave soul Beth. Me? I'd be under a warm blanket sipping cocoa all weekend!

I am not sure why but it seems like Cardinals are everywhere this winter! Thanks for sharing with us!

I heard there were a bunch of Cardinals in Tampa this week. I bet this group would like to join them.

Beth, cardinals can make even a heavy snow storm seem beautiful. I love them anytime, but especially in the winter. Their bright red color against the white snow is breathtaking. I know you are used to a lot of snow, but wow! Hope you have fun this weekend-but be careful. :}

Great photographs of the cardinals. Hope you make the Saturday hike. Don't count on the heavy people with snowshoes. They will be inside, not out hiking.

Sorry I can't make it this weekend. I'm sure I would be useful if heavy is the requirement for good trail packing. I weigh about the same as a fair sized group of boy scouts. Pappy

Nice shots of those cardinals. Every time I see them, I run for my camera. That's several times a day here in Central Maine. Enjoy your blog. Have fun on your hike! I'll be cross country skiing the trails at Good Will-Hinckley today, where Berndt Heinrich went to school long ago.

You know, the cardinals always semed to come to my feeders just before dusk when I lived in Livermore Falls. Often the male will get a seed and feed it to his mate. It is a sweet behavior to witness.
