Spring Floods

The snow melting from the mountains is tearing down through the rivers of Western Maine but we have been spared the devastating floods that are affecting Northern Maine.

The Aroostock County town of Fort Kent where the U.S. Biathlon team is headquartered is really suffering. The St. John River flows through Fort Kent (quite literally right now). The St. John provides an international border between the United States and Canada.

We were up there in February for a ski race and the picture on the right was taken then. The County received several more feet of snow after our visit and the melt along with 5 inches of rain early this week have made things pretty dicey up there.

Maine is a beautiful state, abundant with natural beauty and rightfully coined "vacationland" but Spring isn't the best time to plan a visit.

I can imagine spring comes slowly. Really beautiful vistas though. Have a great day Beth!

As Johnny Cash sang, "How high's the water Moma?" Maine is a beautiful State. I look forward to another trip there soon.

There I go - failing to proof read before publishing. Momma.

Are floods the norm for Northern Maine in the spring? It seems like the entire country is having some pretty devastating weather right now especially in the Midwest. I know the rivers in my home state of Vermont are flooding more and more. Pretty scary.

Beth, such views! Hope your area stays safe. After all the rain we had earlier, we could use some now. Probably the weekend when I want to get help from hubby on a couple of outside projects. :)

Stunning photos. We're planning to see our friends in Maine for Memorial Weekend- they live right on the Northern part, as far up as one could go without touching Canada.
We haven't been able to go sooner because of the snow piles.

Beth, a friend from Aroostook County has been emailing me photos of the floods in Fort Kent, Portage and Ashland. Have you seen any of them? I'm glad you are safe where you are. I saw people being rescued, the International Bridge closed and a house floating down the river!
