A get away weekend

Today I'm heading to Washington, DC to spend the weekend with Molly. Last year during my spring-time visit, she climbed cherry trees as we headed to the Lincoln Memorial.

I haven't seen her since she flew back down to school in early January. She chose an impromptu trip to Florida with friends over coming back to Maine in March for Spring Break--who can understand young people?

As soon as the semester is over, she's jumping on a plane to Europe to see her sister. So, I'm not even sure if Western Maine is on her agenda for the summer.

Molly is my quiet child--when all four of the kids were little--and they were all little at once--less than six years from oldest to youngest. I would often slam on the brakes of the minivan and say with anxiety "Is Molly in here?" The other three would reply yes, except for one time when she wasn't and we quickly had to turn around.
I can't wait to see her this afternoon. Knowing Molly the weekend will provide lots of fun photo opportunities for me to share with you.

Beth, hope you and Molly have a great weekend and get to spend some mother-daughter quality time together. Like Ruth, I can't believe it's been a year since the cherry tree pictures. :)

Beth, I know how your mom's heart swells when you get to spend time with your children...My daughter and grandson are spending a brief time with us this weekend -- I'm hoping to stay flexible around their errands, visits and activities. Enjoy to the fullest!

We left my brother, David, age 4, (I was 11, the oldest, except for Barbara the borrowed girl) in a service station on our amazing month-long summer visit to Utah, Arizona and California relatives in 1947. We didn't miss him for quite a while and then had to find a phone to call. When we got back, he was calmly eating ice-cream supplied by the station owner. Some of the kids were quite jealous of all the fuss, and of the ice cream. It all seems so long ago, because it WAS. My grandson, age 22 visited us this month. It was spectacular!

What is so cool is that it is so apparent that you did what all good parents do... you first gave them roots, and then gave them wings. I marvel at their independence (I never would have been so brave at their ages) and maturity. Good job Mom! :c)
