Does anyone think this is a good idea??

I'm all for creativity and the entrepreneurial spirit and, Lord only knows, in this economy any one gutsy enough to start a business should be applauded--but a topless coffee shop in Maine?

There are so many problems with this idea.

The most obvious is the temperature--there are very few days in Maine when even men are willing to go topless. It's cold here--even in the summer we wear fleece and sweaters. What must they keep their thermostat on in order for these ladies to be at their best?

There are a myriad of other reasons for why this is a shockingly bad idea but I don't want to be accused of negativity. So here's to you Grand View Topless Coffee Shop. Oh my goodness, even the name makes me laugh.

I guess coffee is just not sufficient stimulation for some people anymore. What's this world coming to? :) Pappy

I don't even know what to say.
OK--let's start with answering your question--NO.
Second, there goes the long and distinguished history of the coffee house as a place of. . .um. . .enlightened discussion.
Just one more thing for the rest of the world to look at the U.S. and say--ARE THEY CRAZY, or what?

I thought people needed to be somewhat drunk to go to a topless bar. What do they plan to add to the coffee? I would not be happy to see this in my community.

Texican, I guess not, not to be mean, but I can't really imagine the stimulation that would come with a topless waitress serving up over-priced coffee and a doughnut.

KGMom, yes, I think this story will be picked up by the news outlets, I saw that USA Today had picked it up already. Eeegads. I liked it better when my state was known for Andrew Wyeth, lobsters and blueberry jam.

Ruth, I am sure there are a lot of people in that community hoping that it doesn't last out the recession.

I am quite liberal with such things. That said...steaming milk, really hot coffee, rush of cold air when the door opens...and topless servers? Makes no sense at all. What an insane idea.

Can someone really be serious about this?

It's a matter of wiring Beth. The schematics are totally different. Logic is not part of the equation nor is the price of anything. Don't even try and figure it out. Kings have given up kingdoms, etc. etc. etc.

Are they going to serve regular coffee or is there going to be an espresso bar too? Not that this matters, Maine does not have the right weather to support such a place of establishment.

Making money of course is at the root of having such a place - for the owner and the ladies (tip$)

I think it's just plain disgusting. Forget all the psyco-babble.

Alrighty then. We all know men are visual creatures, but do they want or need that with their caffeine and croissants? It's just silly really. And I can't imagine it's not a wee bit awkward too.

Gosh Beth, that whole deal sounds pretty strange. Please keep us abreast of any new developments! ;-)

Could Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks be soon to follow?

I find it kind of gross but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

I saw a great t-shirt the other day that speaks my opinion clearly:

"Silly men, tits are for kids."

I mean, c'mon, I'm quite liberal too, but this just feels bad in my belly. It's unnecessary.

Oh wait...I should clarify that the shirt was in a mothering magazine!

I'm leaning toward telling my spouse the fishing is better in Maine, the climate is more moderate thatn in Minnesota, and.... oh forget it she ain't gonna buy it if she reads this post.

I would not patronize such an establishment, let me put it that way!

Giggle giggle snort giggle snort. Their mums and pops must be proud as punch, "Hey, stop by where my daughter works, she'd love to see you. You won't believe how much she has grown up. We're so proud."

new gufaws as I read your comment back to the Texican, doughnuts, I all of a sudden had some horrifying pics in my head of the serving of doughnuts and all, I gotta get outa here before my brain explodes. This all is actually too sad amidst the humor. And why do we continue to wonder why? Sometimes a little regulation of commerce is a good thing.
